I find it very interesting every time statistics are brought up in basketball, especially in NBA Basketball. We are bombarded by stats during every NBA game, from the pre-game show, through the game, and into the post-game show. In fact, the last segment on TNT is usually EJ’s Neat-o Stat of the Night.
Here are some interesting things that have been said recently and why the stats misrepresent things.

We are a few games into the second round, and, as always, I have a few remarks that I would like to make about what I have seen so far.

It’s going to be a little tough making some predictions because all of the series have yet to be decided, but I’m going to make my best educated guesses on a couple of them, and just change them later if they are wrong.

With the ousting of the Dallas Mavericks at the hands of the Golden State Warriors last night, we now have the chance for two new teams to be competing for the championship trophy. I am sure that has happened plenty of times in the past (including injuries preventing a team from even making the playoffs), but I’m not so sure that it has ever been the fact that they both were ousted in the first round with a combined 2 wins between them. The NBA, like most sports, usually has dominant franchises that win year after year, getting close to or winning the championship year in and year out for several years and often as long as a decade.

The Utah Jazz forced a game 7 with a victory over the Houston Rockets in Salt Lake City, where they have been dominant all year long. Both teams have been very good all year, the Utah Jazz more so in the beginning of the year and falling off a little towards the end. The Rockets, despite injuries to key players, have done well, too, including a huge run at the end to overtake the Jazz for homecourt advantage when they had both Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming in the lineup.
Now, it’s down to one game in Houston to decide who gets to play against the 8 seed Golden State Warriors. Both teams are very capable of beating the Warriors, and in my opinion, probably will. Their styles of playing more defense and being very good in the half-court as well as on the run should bode well for the eventual victor of the game 7 matchup on Saturday.
