I already went over all of the potential benefits in my last article. There’s no need to rehash those except to say that I think it was a good move for Phoenix, despite all the naysayers. They could NOT have won the title in the West before — not against Utah and San Antonio specifically, and probably not against the Lakers new lineup either. I don’t know if they win with this move, but they certainly were NOT going to win without this move, despite what all of the players were saying about almost winning last year.
Now, on to the Fantasy perspectives…

As most of you can see, I took the holidays off from blogging about Fantasy Basketball, but I’m back.
The article that caught my eye today was the fact that the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat will have to replay 51.9 seconds of their game.

2. The game ended up going into overtime with Atlanta winning the game.
3. They are planning on playing the 51.9 seconds before the next game where the teams meet.

You’re looking over the free agent lists trying to pick up some guys that have a chance of helping you and you start coming across some players who have suddenly started to have good to great stats over the last week or so.

As you’ll recall from my overrated column several weeks back, I said that I thought that one or two players from the Celtics combination of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen was going to take a hit to their stats. I predicted that Ray Allen was the least likely to be taken out of his game (spotting up for three point shots) by being on a team with two other superstars.
It’s still early too early to tell how the entire season is going to shake out, but so far the player that has really taken the hit fantasy-wise is the bench.
Check out the numbers…

Looking at leaders after the first week can often be misleading, but you can’t really wait too long to pick up players who really are going to do well because they will be gone long before you can be sure it is a trend rather than an aberration. Don’t drop guys who are normally good in place of normally mediocre players who start off the season hot, but some of your late rounders can often be sacrificed for taking a chance on some upstart.
With that said, I’ll present the leaders (and some surprises) in certain categories. I’m going to list them by averages rather than totals because some teams have only played a couple of games, and I’ll throw out in players who have only played 1 game.
