Jason Richardson is sent to Phoenix

The official trade involves Jason Richardson and Sean Singletary being sent to Phoenix in exchange for Boris Diaw, Raja Bell, and Jared Dudley.

How will this affect the players individually, as well as their teams?

It’s hard to say how this will affect high scoring swing man Jason Richardson. He has a top notch point guard in Steve Nash passing to him, and he will be able to spot up and receive passes from Shaquille O’Neal and Amare Stoudemire, both of whom command double teams in the post. Still, team chemistry is likely to be a huge issue here, and I can’t say if Richardson is really going to fit in or not. He won’t be taking as many shots, but they are likely to be wide open looks at the basket, and he will likely be receiving them in much better positions to do something than he was able to before.

Making decisions about him is likely moot, however, because he is certainly on a roster in your league, and you certainly aren’t going to decide to drop him at this point. Trading him probably isn’t really an option either because nobody is really sure what will happen with his numbers, and you would likely not get a good value with any trade where he is a principle.

I don’t think Richardson is likely to really affect the rest of the Phoenix Suns much, even in PPG, because the ones he would have really been affecting were involved in the trade. If anybody is affected, it might be Grant Hill, but his numbers weren’t really high enough to merit a non-bench position on anyone’s roster anyway.

Raja Bell and and Boris Diaw were likely on rosters to being the season, but have probably since been dropped.

Are either of them likely to be worth picking up again?

Not likely.

If Raja Bell couldn’t get decent shots from Nash, Stoudemire, and O’Neal, then you certainly can’t count on his numbers improving on a team with a lesser point guard and lesser post presences. He will likely be a productive member of the team, but fantasy-wise, Raja Bell is a factor no more.

The same can’t really be said of Boris Diaw. I don’t advocate picking him up just yet, but you may want to wait and see. He had one very productive year in Phoenix, and the rest of the time have not even deserved a fantasy glance, let alone an actual pickup. Still, fantasy owners still remember the golden year, and likely will continue to hope for second coming of Diaw. Watch him, but PLEASE don’t hold your breath.
