New York Knicks send Zach Randolph to the Clippers

As part of a second trade by the Knicks on Friday, New York shed itself of Zach Randolph’s enormous contract in a purely cost-cutting measure in the hopes of landing one of the major free agents of 2010. The Knicks sent Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to the Clippers for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley.

Fantasy-wise, does this mean anything to you?

Probably not.

Zach Randolph is not likely to see any increase or decrease in production. He is likely to be the starting power forward for a team who lost Elton Brand in the off-season and hasn’t really done too well filling that void. He might get a few more rebounds and a slightly better percentage playing back to the basket than he got playing D’Antoni’s run-and-gun style offense, but the difference in numbers will probably be negligible at best.

Mardy Collins, Tim Thomas, and Cuttino Mobley are not likely to see much time on their respective teams, but they weren’t really seeing much time before anyway, so if you had any of them on your team, they were most likely on your bench anyway.

Thomas and Mobley are obviously not in the Knicks long-term plans, so don’t look for D’Antoni to feel like he needs to utilize them, except where injuries necessitate them being plugged in.
