Vince Carter said all along that he would probably re-sign with the New Jersey Nets.
He did.
Carter had another productive year with the Nets, averaging 25.2 points, 6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in the 2006-2007 NBA season. He also made over 45% of his shots and over 80% of his free throws.
Veteran teams with a chance to win right away, like Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Miami, and Detroit probably didn’t have the cap space necessary to sign him either.
And teams that had cap space, such as the Bobcats, could probably not give him a reason to join a team without much chance to compete for the Championship in the next couple of years, whether or not they had Michael Jordan in the front office making such promises or not.
The deal to keep Vince Carter with the New Jersey Nets for an additional 4 years (and an option of a fifth year) was reported by ESPN.com to be worth about $61.8 million.
