Luke Walton re-signs with the Los Angeles Lakers

With Kobe Bryant’s rants making the headlines, everybody has to be asking themselves if Kobe was happy, sad, or indifferent that Luke Walton will be his running mate for the 2007-2008 NBA Season.

Luke Walton, the son of Hall of Famer Bill Walton, was injured for a fourth of the 2006-2007 NBA season, but in the games he did play, Walton averaged 11 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and threw 4.3 assists — all up from his previous averages mainly due to almost double the number of minutes played.

Although he isn’t spectacular in any one category, his well-rounded play would have helped any team, young or old, and I personally counted him as the fifth best free agent available in my list of 2007 NBA Free Agents.

According to ESPN.com, Luke Walton was offered a 6 year deal worth around $30 million dollars. It was very unlikely that any other team would have offered him any more than that, especially coming off of an injury as he was.
