Jason Kapono signs with the Toronto Raptors

They aren’t going to a youth movement with quite the bang that the Portland Trailblazers did in the past couple of drafts, but the Toronto Raptors under GM Colangelo are a young squad with a lot of promise.

A great record going into the playoffs didn’t translate to winning any series, but with some good development of their players, the Toronto Raptors should be in good shape for years to come.

Adding to a group that includes T.J. Ford, Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, and Jorge Garbajosa, Colangelo will bring in dead-eye Miami long distance shooter Jason Kapono.

Jason Kapono looked to be on a lot of GMs wish lists, especially if they were looking for a good shooter as a final touch to an already well-rounded roster. I personally had him as the sixth best free agent available on my 2007 free agent list and thought that the Utah Jazz might have had some interest in him as well as some of the other available free agent wing players.

Jason Kapono averaged 10.9 PPG in 2006-2007 and shot 49.4% from the field, 51.4% from three point range, and 89.2% from the free throw line.

Jason Kapono also won the Three Point Shootout on the 2007 All Star Weekend in Las Vegas, making 24 of 30 shots in the final round.

Espn.com reported the deal to be for 4 years and about $24 million.
