2007 NBA Draft Lottery yields surprises

None of the worst three teams will pick better than fourth.

And the Northwest Division is just about to become a whole lot better.

The top spot went to the Portland Trailblazers, who will most likely pick up Ohio State center Greg Oden to go along with a great backcourt tandem of Jarrett Jack and Rookie of the Year Brandon Roy and the exceptional but troubled Zach Randolph at the four. That pick up should easily allow them to make it into the playoffs, but don’t look for them to win a championship in the next couple of years. The players are all too young and will need a few years to improve. If the Blazers can keep this group together, though, good things will happen.

The second spot went to the Seattle Sonics. Kevin Durant is largely considered the second best player in the draft, but the Sonics already have the talented Rashard Lewis at the 3. Many people think the sonics will trade Lewis, but I don’t think it too unlikely that the Sonics will have one of them play out of position at the 2 or the 4 and create matchup problems for any team playing them.

The third spot went to the Atlanta Hawks. There is no consensus number 3 player, although there are a lot of good players that could be taken at the #3 spot. We’ll just have to wait and see who the Hawks consider for that pick, or if they decide to trade the pick to get some more experienced players in.
