Well, after the Detroit Pistons finally defeated the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers took care of the veteran New Jersey Nets, we know that the Pistons and the Cavaliers are playing in the Eastern Conference finals.
One thing can be said about both of these series. Neither one is going to be pretty to watch. All four teams are great in the half court. None of them run a whole lot. All of them are physical.
And with their play throughout the playoffs, all of them deserve to be here.
Here are my predictions…
Eastern Conference Finals
2) Cleveland Cavaliers at 1) Detroit Pistons: Is Lebron James good enough, with the help of a few teammates, good enough to beat the Detroit Pistons? Yes. He is that good. Will he do it? Not this year. Home court advantage probably doesn’t make much of a difference to the Detroit Pistons. I think they can win on either court. The younger Cavs might have a little bit of trouble, but James seems to be up to the challenge. He certainly doesn’t play like he has only been in the league for a few years. Even though Lebron is good enough to beat the Pistons, I’m going to say that the Pistons win in a series of very close games. Prediction: Pistons in 6.
Western Conference Finals
4) Utah Jazz at 3) San Antonio Spurs: The Jazz beat a grind-it-out half-court Houston team in 7 games. San Antonio plays a similar style. The Jazz beat a very good point guard in Baron Davis. San Antonio beat the high scoring Denver Nuggets who boast two of the highest scoring players in the league. San Antonio beat the high scoring Phoenix Suns with a lot of very good players including arguably the best point guard in the league. And one of the better Forward-Centers in Amare Stoudemire. They are about to run into the Jazz, who play a different style than either of these teams. The Jazz are unbeaten at home in the playoffs. They outrebounded their last opponents by nearly a billion boards a game. They beat the best center in the league and one of the best swing-men in the league when they beat Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. And they beat them at home. Nobody give the Jazz a chance to win this series. It’s a really tough call. Call me crazy, but I’m going to go with the Utah Jazz to upset. Prediction: Jazz in 6.
