Shaun Livingston will never be a Fantasy Factor

Well, this pretty much washes up Shaun Livingston from ever being a factor in Fantasy Basketball again. For those of you who don’t know, Shaun recently had an MRI that told him that he tore his ACL, MCL, PCL, meniscus, and had other various knee problems. They said he could be back within 10 - 12 months.

I’m currently recovering from repairing my ACL and fixing up my meniscus, and my doctor said it will take a year (worst case) to be fully functional on mine. (Obviously I’ll be able to do regular stuff much sooner than that).

I can’t imagine him playing before October 2008 for the 2008-2009 season. And that assumes that he will really be ready to go ever. Knee injuries are terrible to recover from. This one sounds like the worse sports-related knee injury that I have ever heard of.

I think his rookie contract will be long gone by then, and I’m not sure that the Clippers will want to continue to give him extensions for a knee injury that he may not ever recover from.

I’m sure someone will pick him up for minimum money, and he’ll get a chance to start for a bad team, but I’m predicting that his being picked up in Fantasy Basketball circles is over. He wasn’t picked him much this year as a starter because Sam Cassell kept stealing his minutes, and with this injury, he may be done.

  1. Knees Said,

Plenty of atletes come back from these injuries and can even be stronger than before. The right doctor knows what to do. I know from personal experience and from other patients. There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Pro teams have trainers, and therapist and great resources that protects there investment. It comes down to the person doing the work. It does take time but let’s not close the door on him.

It’s good that some people have faith in Shaun becoming a very good point guard. I wish him the best and speediest recovery possible, but he seems like one of those athletes with a ton of potential but their bodies just can’t handle an 82 game season. His body hasn’t been able to handle a season yet, that I can remember. If he can’t go at least 70 games a year, he isn’t worth drafting in a Fantasy draft. Too bad because his last game of 14 points and 14 assists is a pretty good game.
