Another injury update

It feels weird constantly writing about the injuries of the top players rather than which players are doing better than which other players and which sleepers you should pick up, but honestly nothing is hurting Fantasy teams more than the pile of injuries affecting players.

Everybody has probably already heard that Carlos Boozer is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with his knee injury. Some people figure that this will allow Andrei Kirilenko to get some more time, more shots, and, thus, better stats. I doubt it. Even being a Utah Jazz fan, I don’t expect much more out of Andrei (except some more blocked shots) than what he is already getting. He seems like he has slipped into his position as a role-player quite comfortably and I don’t think he is leaving it this year. If trade rumors are to be believed, he might not even be playing in Utah at the end of the year. Look for Deron Williams and Mehmet Okur to take up most of the slack in points, and Okur and rookie Paul Millsap to take up most of the slack in rebounds. If you have Carlos Boozer on your team, don’t say that you weren’t warned. Most of the injuries tend to happen to players who were injured the year before, and Carlos Boozer is no exception.

It has also recently been announced that Antawn Jamison is being sidelined for several weeks with a sprained knee. Anyone (like me) who has had him on their team knows that his stats will be sorely missed. As for who is going to pick up the slack in his points… Can Arenas really get more points than he is already getting? Quite probably. Caron Butler is also likely to get some. The Wizards have some pretty good reserves waiting in the wings that could likely snatch up the remainder of his stats, so watch the Wizards carefully to see who is getting the time.

Also it should be noted that Chris Paul just came back from his injury. It’s not likely to help the New Orleans Hornets who have been decimated by injuries, but it might help some Fantasy Basketball teams. I think Paul will be passing to the head cheerleader and the hot dog vendor at their next game, if I’m not mistaken about who is currently active on their roster. Will his stats be good? Probably. Should you have picked up Deron Williams at the beginning of the year instead of Chris Paul? Yes. Sorry, I just had to get that in there after the big Chris Paul vs Deron Williams controversy throughout their rookie years.
