Fantasy NBA Basketball Stats Leaders – Three Pointers Made

This category is an interesting one because you have a lot of players that won’t get you any three point shooting at all.

At least you know that most players who are starters for their respective basketball teams are capable of giving you points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks on any given week. Well, maybe not so much on the blocks with a few of the really small point guards, but all of the rest of those categories are almost a guaranteed two or three a week, if not much higher.

You do have a high number of players who take 3 pointers (and it seems like more and more three pointers are taken each year in the NBA), but you really don’t have quite so many that are difference makers in this category.

And although you might think that this is more of a guard and small forward type of category, you have some notable exceptions with some European centers and power forwards who have come into the league who can stroke the long ball. (Dirk Nowitzki and Mehmet Okur are some notable big men who come to mind.)
For the most part, however, smaller players rule this category. And as you will see from the list below, one player is in an echelon all by himself.

Well, I hope I’ve whetted your appetite for the following list of the long bombers in the NBA…

Three Points Made:

  1. Ray Allen – 269
  2. Gilbert Arenas, Raja Bell, Mike Bibby – 190s
  3. Chauncey Billups, Kyle Korver, Jason Richardson, Kobe Bryant – 180s
  4. Morris Peterson, Jason Terry, Mike James, Ben Gordon, Michael Redd, Peja Stojakovic – 160+
  5. Rasheed Wallace, Steve Nash, Antawn Jamison, Rashard Lewis, Damon Jones, Jason Kidd, Mike Miller, Vlade Radmanovic, Antoine Walker, Eddie Jones – 130+

I could probably keep going because you have notables like Joe Johnson, Lebron James, Kirk Hinrich, and Vince Carter in the 120s, but I think I’ll stop there.

If you don’t draft Ray Allen, make sure that you keep track of how many 3 pointers your guys are getting you. This may be difficult to do in the middle of a draft, but it’s in your best interest to make sure that you have enough to compete well in this category.

I had Ray Allen and Chauncey Billups last year (in addition to a few of the other guys with 120+ three pointers), and, needless to say, nobody came close to me in three pointers. It ended up being overkill, but honestly, after drafting Ray Allen, I didn’t much worry about how many three pointers the rest of them came with.
