The Denver Nuggets signed their oft-injured forward-center to a 6 year $60 million deal.
Whoa!
That seems like quite the offer to a guy who only played a few minutes last year. The Denver Nuggets of all people should know how well he has recovered from his injury, but knee injuries are usually very hard to recover fully from.
With Marcus Camby playing center and Kenyon Martin playing power forward, both with large contracts of their own, it stands to reason that one of these players will probably be traded for a shooting guard. Recent rumors have suggested that Kenyon Martin was actively being shopped. If a trade doesn’t happen, that is quite a lot to be paying for a three man rotation between the 4 and 5 positions, especially considering the lack of a quality shooting guard.
With the number of games lost to injury that Martin, Camby, and Hilario have had combined, though, maybe a third high priced big man is necessary as an insurance policy.
